Volunteer opportunity description

This is an unpaid internship opportunity.

The City Manager's Office is recruiting current college students and recent college graduates, to participate in an exciting internship opportunity with the Citywide Volunteer Office.  

The intern will work closely with multiple City departments, local colleges and universities and outside agencies on marketing and community outreach efforts related to volunteer and college internship opportunities.  The intern will also play a lead role in the implementation and management of a new web-based citywide volunteer management software program that is critical to the recruitment and management of more than 30,000 volunteers.

Duties could include, but are not limited to; attending community events to promote the citywide volunteer program and unpaid internships for college students, attending meetings with City departments and outside agencies, developing promotional program material such as flyers, newsletters and brochures, managing the citywide volunteer website, developing forms, streamlining processes,  scheduling trainings, creating and revising policies and reports, responding to citizen inquiries, research and data collection.

Students will gain valuable experience in the following areas:

-Project/program management
-Marketing
-Research
-Community Outreach
-Working with City departments, members of the public, non-profits, outside agencies, corporate groups, universities, etc.
-Coordinating special events events
-Creating promotional material
-Presenting to outside groups


 

Requirements

This opportunity is open to current college students who are juniors or seniors, students enrolled in a Masters program or recent college graduates.  This is an excellent opportunity for students majoring in areas such as Public Administration, Public Policy, Community Resources and Development, Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Education, Recreation, or a related field. 

The intern's schedule will be flexible between the hours of 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday.  A minimum of 12-15 hours per week will be expected.
